I'm a fine art graduate (nearly!) and I have recently returned to the town after living away for a time, which gives me a different perspective.

I'm looking forward to seeing and reading your responses to East Kilbride.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_e29UxRrnU-g/Rkjsew0oUkI/AAAAAAAAAAc/AzPUN06sRio/s320/night+underpass.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5064557794224001602" />

The various parts of East Kilbride are connected by major roads, so there are a lot of underpasses and bridges to allow you to cross them safely. This is a long exposure photo, taken at night. Like most of the town, the underpasses are typical of modernist sixties architecture. There's a lot of concrete, which at the time was a new and exciting building material, rather than grey and dull the way it is now.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_e29UxRrnU-g/RkjyTA0oUlI/AAAAAAAAAAk/GpxDgSZsnd0/s320/day+underpass.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5064564189430305362" />

This is the underpass by day- a little less scary!
You can just see the pebble dash on the side of the bridge, that helps protect it from the cold weather and the harsh winds. The path running underneath is for pedestrians, the road part is for cyclists, which seems normal now but was quite ahead of it's time for the 1960s. You can see into the distance, almost to the heart of the town, this was intended to give people a central point to look towards. The green mounds and grass help balance the concrete.

What kind of road sytem do you have in Surrey?
What is your public transport like?
